The Festival
Set on River Terrace located by the Mataura River is the coolest outdoor festival!
In the peak of Southland's summer, On the Fly sees people join us on the banks of the Mataura River as we celebrate the rich tradition of fly fishing and the iconic Mataura River. We look forward to welcoming you to the World Capital of Brown Trout fishing for a celebration like no other.
From 1:30 - 5:30pm, River Terrace in Gore will be abuzz with food vendors, craft beer & moonshine cocktails, fly fishing guides and enthusiasts, free activities for all ages, good vibes and great tunes playing all afternoon.
Entry
Entry is free and there will be something for the whole family - even your pet pooch!
All dogs must be on a leash at all times, unless they are having a splash in the river. Owners must pick up and dispose of any excrement. Not suitable for reactive dogs (loud noises, crowding etc.).

Can I bring my own food?
Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed, but we encourage you to support our local vendors.
What's the deal with parking?
River Terrace is closed and there is free parking along there. There is allocated spots for disability parking.
What if I'm not into fly fishing?
Fly fishing is optional! You can come along for a fun day by the river with good food, cold drinks, fantastic live performances and free entertainment for the kids. But why not have a go while you're there? You might discover a new hobby!
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, this event is dog friendly. Please ensure your dog is on a leash, under control and you pick up after it.
Will there be toilets?
Yes, there will be portable toilets on both ends of the event. Unfortunately, these are not wheelchair accessible.
Will there be sunscreen available?
Yes, sunscreen will be available, but we advise you to wear protective clothing for additional sun protection.
Cash or Eftpos?
Many vendors accept cards, but please bring some cash just in case. There are plenty of ATMs around town.
