On Saturday 11 February 2023, 10am – 3pm the Eastern Southland Gallery is running a workshop – SCREENPRINTING WITH DIY INKS - with artist Emma Kitson.

Emma Riha Kitson is a descendant of Kai Tahu ki Murihiku. She studied printmaking at the Otago School of Art and loves the egalitarian nature of printmaking and its connections to historical revolutionary movements. She also enjoys just getting to play with knives.

In this workshop participants will learn to screenprint using ink made from reclaimed and foraged pigments. The workshop covers: How to reclaim pigments from nature, discarded makeup, old art supplies, how to make ‘ink’ from pigment and how to make a stencil to screenprint.

The workshop is being held in conjunction with the exhibition KO MURIHIKU TŌKU WHAEA - SOUTHERN MOTHER: Kyla Cresswell, Emma Kitson, Kim Lowe which runs from 4 February - 26 March 2023.

If you are interested in attending please contact the Gallery on [email protected] or phone 03 208 9907 to secure your place.
