The annual Mandeville Fly-In is held the eighth weekend of the year. This is the anniversary of the first cross country flight in New Zealand, between Invercargill and Gore, on 20 February 1914.

The festival will transport you to an age of open cockpit flight and steam-powered railway journeys.

Kids’ eyes widen in amazement at the sight of vintage bi-planes rolling along the airstrip before lifting into flight - and they’ll be beside themselves with excitement as the 145-year-old Rogers K92 Steam Locomotive huffs and puffs into life.

It’s an affordable day out for the family with room to spread out the picnic rug and space for the kids to run around outside at the Croydon Aviation Heritage Centre, just 15 minutes-drive from Gore.

Event date: 18 - 19 February 2023

Fees:

  • $5 for adults
  • Free for children

There's car parking available beside the airfield.
