Haere Mai. Welcome to Gore - the rural gateway to New Zealand, where your visitor experience is at an unhurried pace, the hospitality is genuine and our service is exceptional!
With the Hokonui Hills as a backdrop this rural wonderland amid its picture perfect landscape has something for everyone. Renowned as the world brown trout capital, from October through to March the district takes on an international feel as anglers come to pit their skills with the local Brown Trout.
The last inter tribal Maori Wars, discovery of gold, an illicit whisky industry…..these are just some of the facts which have contributed to this region’s colourful heritage. With a thriving Arts and Heritage culture within the town there is a treasure trove on offer for the visitor, with the Hokonui Moonshine Museum, Eastern Southland Art Gallery, Gore Fishing Museum Project, and at Manderville the Croydon Aircraft Company, world leaders in the restoration of classic 1930s and vintage de Havilland aircraft.
Stunning landscapes make Gore a perfect destination to come and take a break for a while and enjoy the wonderment of this special place. Our climate, soils and light combine to create a richness and brilliance in the colours of many plants which thrive in our conditions.
