Southland has some of the cheapest housing in New Zealand and even though prices are rising due to many families deciding to move south, prices are still relatively low compared to North Island housing. The median price for a house in Gore is approximately $107,500. There are many older homes available for much less than this, as well as more sought after homes in the higher price brackets. Lifestyle blocks are also in great demand. However the average price is still much lower than equivalent North Island packages. Rental properties range from around $120 to $180 per week for a three bedroom home.
