Gore District Council

Welcome to the Gore NZ website and if you are not already a resident I hope I will be able to welcome you soon to our wonderful District. While we are relatively small in population and area we are large in hospitality and the quality of life.

Our District is built on a very strong farming base and rural servicing industries, however in recent years many other strings have been added to our bow, and the District has recently been described as New Zealand’s best kept secret. I refer particularly to additions like the John Money Art Gallery and our wonderful Moonshine Museum.

The world’s best brown trout fishing river, the Mataura, meanders through the Gore District and has become a magnet for many international fishermen.

Mid-winter sees the largest country music festival in New Zealand hit town and competitors and spectators alike come from far and wide to get a taste. If you are looking for a little bit of country mixed with a little bit of sophistication ... TRY GORE!!
